Rosalia Cantore has passed on to eternal life on June 1, 2017 leaving in her wake the pride of a legacy unsurpassed. She came to the United States on June 11, 1973 relocating her husband and 6 children from France in search of a better life for her family, following in the footsteps of her brothers who came here with nothing and built themselves a life that personified the “American Dream”. With not much more than what was in their suitcases, they all worked hard to achieve the best that could be offered.

Born in Barletta Italy, she married her beloved Michele Cantore in 1954. In Italy they had their first 2 children; Maria-Pia and Dominick and then moved to Alsace Lorraine, France in 1957 where they had 4 more children, Antoinette, Miranda, Sylvie and Sonia, all born and raised in France until June of 1973 when they collectively relocated to Hoboken, NJ in the USA. Special thanks and gratitude go out to the Fuccilli family for their support and generosity in helping the Cantore family gain acceptance into the US!

Rosalia, better known as Zia Lina by the larger circle of family and friends, was a warm and loving presence who regularly held court at the current wedding or funeral and sat patiently greeting all the well wishers that waited in line just to say hello. She was also regularly visited by friends and family who could always count on a home cooked meal at the Cantore household, no matter what time, day or night. Her Holiday meals were a thing of extravagance, from soup to nuts right down to her legendary cheese cake. Her door was always open and no one was turned away. She will be missed by everyone she touched over the years.

Rosalia is predeceased by her husband, Michele (October 29, 2009) who passed while visiting family in Italy and her daughter-in-law Ana (October 27, 2003) and by her 6 brothers and 1 sister. She is survived proudly by her large and loving family; Maria Pia (Robert) Rochman and their children Sabrina (Matthew) Coppola, Jared (Renee) Rochman, Chad Rochman and Brooke Rochman; one son, Dominick, his wife Elizabeth and his 3 children Michael (Lisa) Cantore, Christopher (Mackenzie) Cantore and Amanda Cantore; Antoinette (David) Post and their 2 sons Eric and Andrew; Miranda Cantore; Sylvie (Seth) Murphy and their daughter Cassidy, and Sonia (Ron) Cantore-Kessels. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren; Stella and Adriana Cantore; Olivia and Alexander Coppola; Jackson, Parker and Landon Cantore, and Luca Rochman. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, 11AM at St. Paul of the Cross Church in Jersey City. Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum, North Arlington. The family will welcome friends on Sunday, 1 -3 and 5 – 8PM at the Failla-McKnight Memorial Home, 533 Willow Avenue, Hoboken. Valet parking available in rear of memorial home off Sixth Street.
