Dorothy Janet (nee Barry), passed away peacefully at the Hoboken University Medical Center (Carepoint) on Wednesday, September 27th. Raised in Staten Island, New York, Dorothy was the loving wife of late Mayor Steve Cappiello for 62 years. Well known in Hoboken for her political contributions, generosity, independence and vivacious personality. Dottie truly accepted the mile square city as her home and insisted on remaining in Hoboken until her passing. Dorothy was a driving force as a First Lady of Hoboken supporting her husband, Steve, through a long political career including his tenure as Mayor for 12 years.  She was full of life, known for her beautiful smile and abundant laughter. She was a professional bookkeeper, an avid gardener and enjoyed fashion design.

 

Dorothy leaves to mourn her passing her loving children, Janet Cappiello Manocchio, Linda Cappiello, M.D. and Steven J. Cappiello, her only son, her cherished son in law, Stephen Manocchio, M.D., her endeared grandchildren, Beth Ann, Erica and Jeffrey Manocchio, Kenny C. Lindsley and a great grandson, Vincent Nicolino and a loving sister, Barbara Ackermann. Mrs. Cappiello was predeceased by her siblings, James A. Barry and Mary Schraff .

 

Relatives and friends are respectfully welcome to share in the celebration of her funeral mass at St. Ann’s RC Church, Hoboken on Monday, October 2nd at 11AM. Dorothy will be entombed with her late husband at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum in North Arlington, New Jersey. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 1st at the Failla-McKnight Memorial Home, 533 Willow Avenue, Hoboken beginning at 2PM and concluding at 9PM. Memorial contributions to: The St. Ann Restoration Fund in Hoboken or The Hoboken Ambulance Corp. will be appreciated. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home. Valet and off street parking will be available.
